- Gower's mentions of Troilus in CA (I, 2794-97; V, 7597-602; VII, 2531-35) show that Chaucer's poem is popular. Gower, like, Langland, did not "Bask in court favor, nor venture upon the perilous paths of undisguised realism." [RFY1981].
