- Review
- With Chaucer as its focus, the paper surveys Chaucer's use of impersonal verbs, sorting them by syntactic and lexical criteria. It enumerates differences between Chaucer's usage and those of Gower and Langland. Based on an admittedly small data base, the paper does not draw any larger conclusions about Chaucer's practices or linguistic history, though it does suggest that his usage is more "sensitive" than that of his contemporaries.
