- Donavin's efficient essay describes the "groundwork" (p. 56) she laid for her students as essential preparation for a month-long unit on tales of sexual abuse from the "Confessio Amantis" (Lucrece, Philomena, Cornix, and Calistona) in an upper-division undergraduate course for English majors and Gender Studies students. Sensitive to the #MeToo movement and Take Back the Night activities, this groundwork includes trigger warnings, rules for student discussions, and a rich and nuanced set of perspectives on medieval gender issues drawn from recent critical scholarship and serving as a guide or index of parameters for such a unit. Donavin's summary of student responses indicates that the unit was very successful. [MA. Copyright. John Gower Society. eJGN 42.2]
